Executive Summary

This presentation places power companies, local distributors, local governments and consumers in the context of growing electronic commerce. We argue that:
  • There are different forms of electronic commerce: the Virtual Organizational-Form and the World Wide Web WWW-form.
  • Incentives for electronic commerce are different for the private sector than for the public sector.
  • These differences are important and imply real economic consequences for regional municipalities and local businesses.
  • These economic consequences effect the market for electrical energy.
  • Energy suppliers can build a strategic role (strengthen relationships) with local regions in a co-operative effort to build "a better form" of electronic commerce.
