A need for improvement, however, is still seen in terms of profitability, especially in industrial application, where payback times of less than five years are demanded in Germany, for example, and in such applications in which the solar air collector competes with the water-based system. The manufacturers see potential solutions in the use of new materials as well as in an increase in the level of standardization.“Worldwide solar thermal room heating systems are not viable today”, says Jochen Klingler, the Managing Director of the German manufacturer EnerSearch. “In the last seven years, EnerSearch has invented a plastic solar air collector to reduce investment and operating costs and to reach an amortization of less than six years.”
